Create Links between Entities

Click the New Link button to open the Link panel. The link is made by selecting the 'From Entity', the 'Link description' and then the 'To Entity'.
As the Link statement is built, this is reflected at the top of the panel and is what the finished link will appear as, From Entity > link description and status line > To Entity.

1. Select the From Entity - the list populates from the Document's Entities list and is sorted alphabetically by Entity Type then Name/Title. Either scroll through the list or start typing an Entity's name to find.
   
2. In the link description field, just start typing a keyword of the link required and select, or select from the list of links shown.
   
3. Select the 'To' Entity - this list will only include the relevant Entity Types for the Link description selected. More than one 'To Entity' can be selected where appropriate to create multiple links with the From Entity. The status category can be updated from the default of Unconfirmed to Tentative or Confirmed.
   
4. Time Dependent record - If the Link type has this option then a date/time stamp can be added to the Link. Use the date control to select the Start and/or End date and time. Note; Time dependent links with a Start or End date are used to help identify the link between the Entities on the time bar in Analytic charts which provides useful information for analysts.
   More than 1 Time Dependent record can be added e.g to reflect multiple phone calls or contact between the linked Entities.
   
   

Click Finish to save the new Link between the selected Entities which is added to the Document Links list and also to the Links listing in both of the Entities Profile. The total number of Links for the Document shows above the listing.

To Edit an existing Link click on the Status line between the 2 Entities which opens the Link record. Only the Status and/or the Time Dependency records can be edited or new Time Dependency records added. Multiple Time dependent records can be added to a Link if required.

To change the From or To Entities or the Link description, you will need to delete the current Link then create a new Link.

To delete a Link click on the X to the right of the record and confirm the delete. No further save is required.

Note: If an Entity is deleted from the Document (on the Entity Extraction page) all of that Entity's Links will also be deleted from that Document.

Clicking on the Chart view button opens the Analytics page (in a new tab) showing all of the Document's Entities and their Links (from the current Document).

This can be a useful way to visualise the existing Links and identify any unlinked Entities (of the Document).
